Discover Your Path To Emotional Wellness
About The Wellbeing Body
The Wellbeing Body was founded on the belief that emotional wellbeing deserves the same attention as physical health.
We provide integrative psychotherapy, counselling, wellbeing education, and community-focused support. Our approach combines evidence-based practice with genuine human connection, recognising that wellbeing is influenced by relationships, routines, movement, nutrition, environment, identity, and life experiences.
Our vision is to create a service that supports people not only through therapy, but through education, community connection, workplace wellbeing, creative expression, and lifestyle support.
What Drives Us
Our Mission and Values
Too often, people seek support only when they have reached crisis point.
The Wellbeing Body was created to provide a space where people can access support earlier, understand themselves more deeply, strengthen their wellbeing, and connect with others who may be on similar journeys.
Our long-term vision is to become a wellbeing hub within our community — bringing together therapy, education, creativity, movement, workplace wellbeing, knowledge exchange, and community partnerships.
We believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, evidence-based support that helps them not only cope, but thrive.
Most importantly, we believe wellbeing should not end when therapy does.
Our People
Meet Our Dedicated Team
Our therapists and trainee therapists are carefully selected for their professionalism, warmth, and commitment to ethical practice.
All trainee therapists receive regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development. This allows us to provide accessible counselling services without compromising on quality, safety, or care.
Sessions with one of our trainee psychotherapists are £30 for 50 minutes.

Lydia Alty
Lead Psychotherapist
I am Lydia Alty, founder of The Wellbeing Body, qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, registered member of the BACP, Psychology PhD researcher at the University of Southampton, and specialist mentor supporting university students with mental health needs and autism.
My professional experience includes hospital mental health services, residential care, community settings, higher education, and private practice.
Alongside my clinical work, my doctoral research explores childhood traumatic loss and the impact it can have across the life course. This research continually informs the trauma-informed, relational, and evidence-based approach that underpins the service.
I created The Wellbeing Body because I wanted to create something that went beyond traditional therapy — a place where people feel welcomed, understood, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.
Garret
Personal Trainer & Nutrition Coach
I have been involved in fitness and nutrition throughout my adult life. In my twenties, my focus was bodybuilding, and I successfully won my first competition at the age of 27.
Over time, my approach to health and fitness has evolved. I now focus on movement, vitality and creating realistic changes that can be maintained long term. My aim is to help people care for their body in a way that also supports their overall wellbeing, confidence and quality of life.
Alongside this work, I am a mechanical engineer. The attention to detail, problem-solving skills and practical thinking required in engineering also shape the way I approach physical health and nutrition. I take time to understand each person’s circumstances, goals and challenges before creating a plan that feels achievable and sustainable.
I hold a Level 3 Personal Training qualification and a Level 3 Nutrition for Health qualification.

Hyunwook
Psychotherapist in Training
Hi, I’m Hyunwook, a psychotherapist in training and placement student at The Wellbeing Body. I am currently completing the third year of my master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Derby. I also hold a master’s degree in Psychology.
Before beginning my psychotherapy training, I worked with autistic children in both school and private settings. I have also worked as a freelance language translator and as a part-time university lecturer, teaching undergraduate students about introductory psychology and public mental health.
Alongside my professional experience, I have supported community groups for people experiencing mental health difficulties and learning disabilities. These roles have strengthened my commitment to providing a welcoming, compassionate and non-judgemental space where people feel heard and understood.
Originally from South Korea, I have lived in England for more than 20 years. My own experiences of adapting to life in a new country, feeling different and, at times, feeling marginalised inspired me to study counselling and psychotherapy. This journey has helped me develop a deeper understanding of myself and greater acceptance of others and their individual experiences.
I am currently completing my dissertation, which explores low mood in older adults — an area I feel particularly passionate about.

At The Well Being Body, we offer a variety of therapeutic services designed to support and guide you through your personal journey. Our approach is centered around empathy, understanding, and confidentiality, ensuring that you feel safe and supported at every step.
Therapy & Wellbeing

- Counselling
We support people experiencing anxiety, low mood, burnout, neurodiversity, relationship difficulties, trauma, loss, self-esteem challenges, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions.
We work alongside you to better understand your experiences, emotions, and patterns, helping you create meaningful and lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
Community & Partnerships
We recognise that wellbeing does not only happen within the therapy room.
Where appropriate, we aim to support people in connecting with wider community resources including social groups, wellbeing activities, volunteering opportunities, financial support services, education opportunities, employment support, charities, and peer networks.
We are passionate about becoming an active part of the Derby community and welcome opportunities to volunteer, collaborate, provide talks, attend community events, and work alongside local organisations.
Movement & Lifestyle Support
Mental wellbeing does not exist in isolation from physical wellbeing.
Emerging evidence highlights the relationship between movement, sleep, nutrition, stress regulation, and emotional health.
My approach is supportive, practical and free from judgement. You do not need to be experienced, confident in the gym or already physically fit to get started.
